Scientists already know being over age 50, MPTP, and several genes make it more likely somebody will develop the disorder. They also found several factors that are more common in people without the disorder and that they maybe somehow be protected by them. Question about side effects of Parkinsons disease drugs? My Mother has advancing Parkinson's disease and has been given several alternate drugs to control the shaking. The drugs have worked in some cases, but the side effects are always too bad for her to continue taking them. The doctors don't seem to be able to help her with this. Has aniyone else been thru this and found a solution....either a new drug...or an alternate therapy....or even a drug that helps curb the side effects (usually she becomes very lethargic or too tired and sleeps all day) Any help or siggestions would be greatly appreciated... I should add that she is not willing to have surgery to implant a device that may help the problem with electrical impulses.

How often is parkinsons disease misdiagnosed? I just found out my mom has been diagnosed with parkinsons disease. I know to test for it there wasnt any real way to check for it except several reflex tests etc... but there wasnt any lab work or blood test they did to tell for sure that she has it. It seems like this disease would be easy to misdiagnosed for that reason, that there arent any lab tests or blood work done. Anyone have any experience with this, could she of been misdiagnosed? How often is pd misdiagnosed? Also I dont know if this matters but my mom is a little bit of a hypochondriac, so she thought she had parkinsons disease before she even got tested for it. She knew what all of the symptms were before she went to the dr. because she looked them up on the internet. Do you think that could play a factor in misdiagnosing pd?

Is there a health condition that is similar to Parkinsons's disease? Let me clarify myself...Please NAME a few? Thank you.
